How to immigrate to Canada through family sponsorship?

Family sponsorship is one of the quickest and most popular methods to get Canada PR, and it is likely to increase this year as foreign travel restrictions have been relaxed. India is the largest supplier of new permanent immigrants to Canada, with China coming in second. Prior to the Covid-19 epidemic, more than 20.6 percent of the 85,590 new permanent residents from India arrived here through family sponsorship schemes, as did more than 34.9 percent of those from China.

In 2019, nearly 28,125 immigrants arrived in Canada through family sponsorship schemes from these two countries alone. As borders open up due to the global distribution of Covid-19 vaccinations and economies recover from the financial effects of the pandemic, the family sponsorship category of immigration programs promises to give excellent possibilities for Indian citizens who wish to call Canada home.

A Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada over 18 years of age, can sponsor certain family members to become Canadian permanent residents via the family sponsorship programs. Those family members are now able to live, study, and work in Canada as a result of their permanent residency.

Financial responsibility to be borne by the sponsors

Once their relative arrives in Canada, the sponsor bears full financial responsibility for him or her. To be a sponsor, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident must meet the following requirements:

1.  Sign a sponsorship agreement with the relative to be sponsored, committing the sponsor to provide financial help to the relative if necessary. This agreement also states that the individual who is becoming a permanent resident will make every attempt to sustain himself or herself.

2.Provide financial assistance to your spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for three years after they become a permanent resident, and;

3.Maintain financial assistance for a dependent kid for ten years, or until the youngster reaches the age of 25, whichever comes first.

4.Individuals interested in applying under the Family Class sponsorship category can get a free online evaluation to see whether they are eligible.

Relatives who can be sponsored include:

  1. Spouse

2. Common-law partner

3.  Dependent children

4.  Conjugal partner

5.  Parents

6.  Grandparents

7.  Unmarried and orphaned brothers or sisters, nephews or nieces, granddaughters or grandsons under the age of 18

8.  Another relative of any age or relationship, but only under certain conditions

The Spousal Work Permit Pilot Program allows spouses and common-law partners who come to Canada through sponsorship schemes to work.

Spouses can work in Canada as part of sponsorship programs

The initiative is intended to give wives and partners the opportunity to work while their immigration petitions are being processed. To be eligible, Candidates must be in Canada and in the process of being sponsored for permanent residence under the spouse or common-law partner category. Candidates must also be in possession of a valid temporary visa as a guest, student, or worker. Sponsors sign a contract with Canada’s immigration officials to repay the government for any social assistance payments given to the sponsored individual under the sponsorship programs.

Sponsors commit to the undertaking agreement for the duration of the contract, even if their circumstances change, such as a marriage breakdown, separation, divorce, or a financial shift.

In case of a spouse, conjugal partner or a common-law partner, a sponsor must sign an undertaking to compensate the federal or provincial governments for three years from the day they become a permanent residence and if it is a case of a child under 19 years of age, the duty begins on the day the child becomes a permanent resident of Canada and lasts for ten years, or until he or she becomes 25 years old.

In the event of a dependent child over the age of 19, the duty begins on the day when the child becomes a permanent resident and lasts for three years whereas in the case of parents/grandparents, the responsibility to sponsor extends for 20 years from the day the member of the family class becomes a permanent resident. The responsibility lasts ten years for all additional family members.
